The Arizona Daily Star took up my challenge to use some of its campaign advertising windfall to host a debate for the U.S. Senate race, but Rep. Jeff Flake is hiding in the bunker and refuses to debate Dr. Richard Carmona.
The Star today says it has provided six dates in early October for a debate to be consponsored by the Tohono O'odham Nation at its Desert Diamond Casino. So Flake did not just diss the Star, but is dissing the Tohono O'odham Nation as well. Stay classy you Flake.
The Star reports that both campaigns confirm that there is only one "debate" scheduled for this race, a half-hour candidate conversation on Horizon (PBS) in Phoenix on October 10, from the safe confines of the studio without an audience, and a host who never asks a tough question. I can't stand these PBS candidate conversations.
The Senate candidates ought to agree to get on a bus and go on a town hall tour around the state to be hosted by the local media and civic groups at each stop. Face questions from the voters in a public forum. Give the voters a chance to get to know these candidates one-on-one.
Alas, this chickenshit Jeff Flake does not want to debate a decorated Vietnam war veteran, Pima County Sheriff deputy, trauma surgeon and the former Surgeon General of the United States. He knows that his record as a corporate lobbyist for foreign companies and as director of the ideologically extreme Goldwater Institute before a career in Congress for which his only notable claim to fame is his opposition to "earmarks" instead of bringing that bacon home to Arizona to create new jobs and infrastructure, will expose him as the right-wing ideologue that he is. Flake will look small and insignificant by comparison.
It's time to man up Mr. Flake and to take questions from the voters in town hall debates with your opponent, Dr. Richard Carmona. If you are unwilling and too afraid to do this, then you are unworthy of being a candidate for the U.S. Senate. You are undeserving of anyone's vote.
Time for the chicken suit to make an appearance at Flake's events.
