Wil Cardon had said he would spend whatever it takes to defeat Jeff Flake in the GOP primary for the U.S. Senate. Apparently there is a limit to how much of his personal fortune this self-funded candidate is willing to spend. It is probably a safe bet that his internal polling is showing this race is over.
Dan Nowicki at the Arizona Republic's AZ/DC Blog writes Cardon off TV in competitive Senate primary:
Wealthy Mesa investor Wil Cardon's big-spending television advertising campaign transformed him from a statewide political unknown into a Republican Senate contender, but his broadcast artillary is going silent just as Arizona GOP voters are filling out their early ballots.
Cardon's decision to go dark at such a crucial juncture has led to some speculation that he may be winding down his campaign in advance of the Aug. 28 primary, although his campaign denied this to The Arizona Republic on Monday. By contrast, U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, the Republican Senate frontrunner and Cardon's main GOP rival, is in the midst of a $1.4 million TV ad buy that runs through primary election day.

Cardon through June put $7.5 million of his own fortune into his Senate campaign and has spent an estimated $3.7 million to $4 million on TV and radio ads. However, that spending recently dwindled to just a minor $25,000 radio and cable-only buy that ends Tuesday, after which he appears to be off the air.
Can we get Jeff Flake to pull his ads as well? I am sooo tired of seeing these guys at almost every commercial break.
