The most regressive and radical Arizona legislature in our state's 100 year history hopes to adjourn sine die on April 17, give or take a few days. Katy bar the doors and windows and don't let them back in to do any more harm to this state. “No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.” ― Mark Twain.
The problem is the one duty of this legislature that it has yet to complete -- adoption of a state budget. Plan to delay OK of 2013 budget dismissed:
The Legislature is six days away from its hoped-for adjournment date of April 17, but a budget deal is nowhere in sight. House and Senate leaders are continuing closed-door talks with Gov. Jan Brewer's office, but rank-and-file lawmakers have not been briefed yet.
Brewer last week used veto letters to reiterate her budget priorities, such as money for reading remediation programs and for welfare programs that are losing millions in federal dollars. She warned lawmakers to not send her any spending bills until there is agreement on a fiscal 2013 budget. The budget must be approved by July 1, when the new fiscal year begins.
Lawmakers have been tight-lipped about talks, although it's generally believed they must loosen their reins on spending while Brewer trims some of her requests.
Mary Jo Pitzl writes at the Arizona Republic, "If the sine die pool at the Capitol is a reliable predictor (and we're not saying it is), the Legislature will close out work, shut down and go home on April 19." Insider: Bettors pick April 19 for legislative wrap-up. Please, just make this session end.
