Not that the anti-union Arizona Republic or our Tea-Publican legislature beholden to the Goldwater Institute much cares, but "A new Bloomberg News national poll finds that Americans believe, by a wide margin, that public sector workers should have the right to collectively bargain. 64 percent of respondents, including a plurality of Republicans, believe public workers should be able to bargain collectively for their wages, while 63 percent believe that states should not be able to break pension agreements they’ve already made." Poll Finds Americans Reject Republican Assault On Unions | ThinkProgress.
Our Tea-Publican legislature is in the process of repealing the public pension reforms advocated for by the Arizona Republic last year that were ruled unconstitutional by the court. Two of the four anti-union bills drafted by the lobbyists from the Goldwater Institute, including a bill assaulting collective bargaining rights, currently lack enough support to get out of the Senate. And the top legislative priority of Gov. Jan Brewer aka Boss Tweed, a bill to end the civil service merit selection system and return to the spoils system of political patronage, is still awaiting action.
Given growing public opposition to such radical anti-worker measures, the legislature would be wise to reconsider and to kill these bills.
