The Arizona Daily Star in an editorial opinion today takes Jan Brewer to task for lying about headless bodies in the deserts of Arizona. Brewer (sort of ) owns up to claim of headless bodies:
It took weeks, but Gov. Jan Brewer has finally admitted she was wrong when she first said, and then continued to say, that headless bodies have been found in the Arizona desert.
After dodging questions, running away from reporters and refusing to own up to her mistake, she gave the classic non-admission admission of error.
"That was an error, if I said that," the Republican told The Associated Press on Friday.
The fact that it took this long for Brewer to own up to her mistake is troubling.
Instead of accepting responsibility for a statement she made and continued to make on national television, Brewer first ignored the issue. She then blamed the media for continuing to asking her to clarify after county medical examiners and law enforcement agencies said she was wrong.
On Thursday, after her embarrassing performance during the solitary gubernatorial debate, she tried to explain why she ran away from the press when asked about her headless bodies comment.
She wasn't talking about headless bodies found in Arizona, she said, she meant headless bodies found in Mexico.
As the Star's Rhonda Bodfield reported, Brewer had responded to a television reporter's question about headless bodies in Arizona with, "Our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert, either buried or just lying out there that have been beheaded."
So we were supposed to believe that when the governor of Arizona said "our law enforcement agencies," she actually meant Mexico? Please.
Brewer has shown that she's unwilling to accept facts when they don't support her political storyline. This is a dangerous habit that must be broken now.
Maybe now the Arizona Daily Star will give equal attention to Jan Brewer's other big lies as well, such as "I balanced the state budget," "I saved public education," "I created thousands of jobs in Arizona," etc. Isn't this your job?
