I think congratulations are in order for the folks at the Goldwater Institute. I've been saying the 800 pound gorilla of an anti-immigrant bill isn't going away any time soon, so they should come out from behind the sofa and address the issue head on.
I was more than half wrong. The legislature shrunk the gorilla to chimp size with its 11th hour bill getting rid of SB 1070's most onerous provisions. So the folks at G.I. can sneak out of the living room while the chimp climbs the drapes, or they can applaud Republicans for stripping out the most anti-libertarian aspects of the bill.
I'm not sure how bad the remaining provisions are -- I haven't seen much analysis yet -- but it's clear the bill is not nearly the monster it once was.
