Jim Nintzel at the Tucson Weekly reports Tancredo Comes to Southern Arizona | The Range:
Tom Tancredo, the former Colorado congressman who made headlines for his hard-line illegal-immigration policies, is coming to Southern Arizona—and it appears that just about every Republican in the region is set to share a stage with him.
Tancredo is the keynote speaker at the Southeastern Arizona Tea Party at the Sonoita Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 27.
Also on the bill at the shindig: Congressional candidates Jonathan Paton, Jesse Kelly, Brian Miller and Andy Goss; state Sen. Frank Antenori; state Reps. David Gowan and David Stevens; and a host of other GOP candidates.
The Huffington Post reports that Republican Dick Armey had some interesting things to say about Tancredo earlier this week:
For the second time in as many weeks, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey — who has become the corporate personification of the Tea Party movement — verbally smacked down former Rep. Tom Tancredo, another Tea Party fixture, for his unsympathetic views on immigration reform.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, Armey called the Colorado Republican a "destructive" force on the Republican Party and claimed that, as Majority Leader, he made sure that Tancredo "didn't get on a stage" to profess his hard-line views on immigration.
"The Republicans — when I was a Majority Leader — I saw to it that Tom Tancredo did not get on a stage because I saw how destructive he was... Handle it with some sense of compassion and some sense of civility. The Hispanic-American is the most natural-born constituency for the Republican Party since the Black American was in 1965. And these guys are trying to blow it. Just do it right... There is room in America. If you love America, if you love freedom, love work, are willing to pay your way, pay your taxes and obey the law, you should be welcome in America."
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Apparently the Southern Arizona teabaggers and GOP Taliban didn't get the corporate newsletter from the FreedomWorks' Dick Armey of teabaggers.
Led by Sen. Russell Pearce (R-Mesa) the Arizona GOP Taliban has settled upon demonizing immigrants (once again) as their election strategy for 2010. This is to make their base voters forget about the fact that this is the worst failed Arizona Legislature in the history of Arizona. These failures should be held accountable by the voters. None of them should ever serve in elective office again.
